A serious two‑vehicle crash occurred at approximately 12:09 a.m. on April 11, 2026, on U.S. Route 62 near Surber Lane. The Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, which involved a Highland County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Blake Mallow, 21, of Sabina, was traveling northbound on U.S. Route 62. A 2020 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor operated by Deputy Danny Strain, 70, of Greenfield, was traveling southbound.
Investigators report that Mr. Mallow traveled left of center and struck Deputy Strain head‑on.
Both Mr. Mallow and Deputy Strain were transported to Highland District Hospital with serious injuries. The Highland County Sheriff’s Office asked the community to pray for their deputy.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Highland County Sheriff’s Office, Hillsboro Police, Paint Creek Fire and EMS, and T&G Towing. The crash remains under investigation.
UPDATE: The Highland County Sheriff’s Office declined to provide additional comment Saturday morning.
