SCIOTO COUNTY, OhioScioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman reports that deputies have arrested a Portsmouth woman following a stabbing that occurred Thursday, June 4, in Lucasville.

At approximately 5:53 p.m., the Scioto County 911 communication center received a call requesting emergency medical services for a male who had been stabbed. Deputies arrived at the scene and requested a detective to lead the investigation.

The victim has been identified as 45‑year‑old Larry William Gill of Lucasville. Gill was first transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center, then flown to an out‑of‑town trauma center. According to the sheriff’s office, he has undergone two surgeries for a chest wound and remains in critical condition.

Detectives determined that Gill and his family had been staying at a residence on Ridge Lane in Lucasville. A suspect, identified as 40‑year‑old Rheena Nichole Shaw of Portsmouth, had visited the home earlier in the day. As Shaw was leaving the residence, she allegedly stabbed Gill in the chest before fleeing on foot. Law enforcement later located and detained Shaw without incident.

On Thursday, June 11, Shaw appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court for arraignment. She is being held on a $100,000 bond for the charge of attempted murder. The full list of charges filed against her includes two counts of felonious assault, both felonies of the second degree, and one count of attempted murder, a felony of the first degree.

Sheriff Thoroughman stated that the case remains an active investigation and that additional charges will be presented to a future session of the Scioto County Grand Jury.
