Lt. Governor Jim Tressel and Fairfield student volunteers participating in activities.
Fairfield Local Schools welcomed a special guest on February 25th when Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel visited to speak about the Fitness Challenge. Tressel has visited schools across Ohio through this initiative, with Fairfield Local being the 53rd stop on his tour.
The Fitness Challenge is a statewide, student‑led 30‑day fitness program designed to support healthier routines for students. It focuses on building strong eating habits, consistent sleep schedules, and regular physical activity. The program was created to strengthen both the mental and physical health of students in grades 3 through 8.

Students who participate receive workbooks that guide them through flexible workouts and nutrition plans that fit into their daily schedules. The fitness portion of the workbook highlights five groups of activities: cardio, strength, flexibility, nutrition, and sleep.
Participation is open to everyone. Any public, private, or community school or organization can join the Jim Tressel Fitness Challenge, and homeschooled students are welcome as well. The program is built around flexibility, which allows students to complete activities anywhere and at any time.
