PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — A Grove City man was killed early Monday morning after a dump truck overturned on US Route 23 southbound, just south of Weigand Road in Harrison Township. According to Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey, the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received the first 911 call at 7:26 AM reporting an overturned dump truck blocking both southbound lanes.

South Bloomfield Police officers arrived first, with Pickaway County deputies and the Ohio State Highway Patrol arriving moments later. Responders found a 2015 Kenworth dump truck owned by Decker Construction on its side, completely blocking the roadway.

Investigators determined that the truck had been traveling southbound when it veered off the left side of the road. The driver appeared to overcorrect twice, causing the vehicle to swing back toward the east side of the roadway. The rear of the truck fishtailed, and the vehicle ultimately rolled onto its right side. The driver was ejected and partially pinned beneath the truck.

The victim was identified as 62‑year‑old Michael E. Moyer of Grove City. Harrison Township Fire and EMS pronounced him deceased at 7:39 AM.

Sheriff Hafey expressed appreciation to all agencies that assisted at the scene, including Harrison Township Fire and EMS, South Bloomfield Police Department, Commercial Point Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Pickaway County Coroner Dr. Seth Yates, Scioto Township Fire and EMS, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The crash remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
