A Chillicothe man was arrested Monday night after police say he assaulted a woman during a domestic incident that began on North Bridge Street and ended at the Speedway gas station at the corner of North Bridge and East Main Street.

Officers were dispatched around 9:58 p.m. on June 15 after a caller reported a tan sedan traveling southbound with the male driver striking a female passenger, according to the police report. The caller also reported seeing the woman attempting to get out of the moving vehicle.

When officers located the vehicle at Speedway, they found the passenger with visible injuries, including a bloody nose, a busted lip, and bruising. She told officers she had been struck during an argument.

Police identified the driver as Tyler Scott Bethel Estep, 32, of Chillicothe. Officers reported finding blood on Estep’s hands and arms. He told police the woman was experiencing a mental health episode and attempting to jump from the vehicle, a claim she denied.

During the investigation, officers located a bag containing white pills on the driver’s floorboard. Estep said the pills were Percocet but did not provide proof of a prescription at the scene. The pills were seized and will be sent for laboratory testing.

Police also determined Estep was driving under a non‑compliance suspension and that the license plate on the vehicle was not valid. The car was impounded.

Estep was taken to the Ross County Jail and charged with domestic violence. He was also cited for driving under suspension and operating a vehicle with an invalid plate. Additional charges related to the pills may be considered pending laboratory results.

The woman declined transport by EMS and was provided information on how to obtain a protection order.
