When customers step into The Letter Shop in Greenfield, they are greeted by a business that carries both history and transformation. Its owner, Andrew Surritt III, is an Air Force veteran who retired in 2011 and now balances a demanding life that stretches far beyond the walls of the shop. He works full time in Columbus as a medic handling ICU level transports, and he operates a nonprofit search and rescue organization. Yet he still finds the time and energy to run the print shop his father entrusted to him before passing away from cancer in 2021. The shop had long been a shared hobby between Andrew and his father in law, but when his father became sick, he asked Andrew to take over. Andrew stepped in knowing the outcome was not going to be favorable, and he has carried that responsibility with a sense of purpose ever since.
In the years following his father’s passing, Andrew has modernized The Letter Shop and expanded its capabilities far beyond what it once offered. The shop now produces business forms, letterhead, business cards, apparel, and a growing range of custom products. Andrew is also adding 3D printing to the lineup, a move that reflects his commitment to keeping the business relevant and accessible. His mission is straightforward. He wants to provide customers with the products they need at a price that makes sense for the community. Many print shops are priced well outside the budgets of local residents and small businesses, but Andrew works closely with customers to stay within or even under their budget. That approach has made The Letter Shop a reliable partner for families, entrepreneurs, and schools throughout the area.
Andrew believes The Letter Shop is the only veteran owned print shop in the region, and it also offers the largest product range locally. Apparel, signs, 3D printing, and a long list of customizable items make the shop a one stop destination for nearly any print or design need. That versatility has allowed Andrew to take on projects that would normally require multiple vendors. One recent example is a new startup that needed a complete branding package. Andrew handled everything from the logo to the social media graphics to the mass mailer to the T shirts. He turned the entire project around in only a few weeks, giving the business a polished identity without the long delays or high costs that often come with branding work.
Even with the shop’s momentum, Andrew faces challenges that many small businesses know well. The biggest limitation is space. The current building has reached maximum capacity, and adding more equipment or expanding the product line would require moving into a new facility. Despite that constraint, The Letter Shop continues to grow. Andrew says the business has been increasing at a steady rate of twenty five to thirty percent each year, and he does not see anything that would slow that progress.
Looking ahead, Andrew hopes to move to regular hours within the next six months and to revamp the storefront to better reflect the shop’s expanding capabilities. He also plans to introduce more items that support local schools, including shirts, tumblers, coffee cups, coozies, stationery, and a wide range of customizable products. For Andrew, the work is about more than printing. It is about honoring the legacy he inherited, serving the community he calls home, and building something that continues to grow long after the shop’s original founder is gone.
